How to wear a Saree

Saree is a strip of cloth worn primarily by Indian women, it comes in different length and colors. It is usually wrapped around the waist while the other end is to be draped around the shoulders. It is usually worn over a petticoat and upper garment blouse  called a choli.

During my trip to India, we went to Pothy’s, a popular Silk store in Madurai to buy a Saree Silk. It was huge store about 2-3 floors all for Silks and other kinds of fabrics.  A Saree cost around 200RP to as much as 5000RP depending on the quality of the silk.

The ladies in the picture was kind enough to do a demo on wearing a Saree they even put a accessory to my friend’s  forehead after  they finished draping the Saree that we bought. Coolness!

Meanwhile the first photo is the traditional Indian Henna, its free for customers of Pothy’s however since we are very overwhelmed with the Sarees we forgot to go back to the booth to get our henna.

Brihadeeswarar Temple, Tanjavore India

_From Wikipedia:

The temple is made up of 130,000 tons of granite. The 60-metre tall vimana is the tallest in South India. A European-like figure which is carved on the vimana is believed to be an ancient warning of the arrival of the British. Later investigations by archaeologists proposed that this carving may be a hoax. It is widely believed that the shadow of the gopuram never falls on the ground. However, some scholars have dismissed this as a myth.

**********

This is our first temple to visit during our 12 days South India Trip. Visitors are asked to take of shoes when entering the temples as a sign of respect to their Gods. We arrived around noon time, so the sun is as its best heat, feels like being grilled alive, the floors are super hot and we were all walking barefooted. So its being advice to visit temples around the afternoon when the walls and the floors were already cool.

From Tiruchirappalli, Tanjavore is 45minutes away by land. We hired a van to tour us around since we were 9 members in our group. The cost is RP 3,000 for

a 10hour used of the van. I was surprised how cheap the car rental services in India compared to the Philippines. The whole van rent includes driver’s fee, gas and parking plus the convenience and comfort while touring around India.

Lake Sebu 7 Falls

A view from the top Lake Sebu, South Cotabato

This was taken from above while riding the zipline in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.  Its is the main attraction in the area, and i can say that so far its the best zipline view in the Philippines. (better than Camp Zabros, Davao).

The fee is 250pesos for  two rides back and forth, you will be starting to falls no.1 ( photo) then back for 2nd ride you will see the 2nd and 3rd falls.

How to get there:

We hired a jeep since we’ re like 15 that time but if thru public transpo here’s the details:

Flights from Manila to General Santos (1.5 hours). From Gensan, take a bus to Koronadal (45 min). Koronadal is the regional hub, so transportation is not a problem. From Koronadal take a bus/van to Surallah (20 minutes). From Surallah there are jeeps/vans/motorcycles going up to Lake Sebu (20 minutes). Hire a motorcycle to take you to Falls #1 where zip line #1 is once you get to Lake Sebu (10 minutes)

Back to blogging again, but this time I will seriously maintain this site and post all my travels, photos and whereabouts. I will go back to my travels three years and somehow share to the world how life is beautiful. Thanks to my newly bought  laptop, i can download, surf and do photoshop without waiting for 5 minutes every time i use applications.

This will be like a photoblog / travel blog, but excuse me sometimes with my writing sometimes it will be a little bit odd but please bear with me, this is my personal site anyway! hahaha  so enjoy.
